02-05 April - BUS STOP - Mt Gambia, SA
This is the annual Kombi Club event held at Easter each year in a different location. In all 43 kombis from SA, VIC, TAS, NSW and QLD attended the event. It was an axcellent event with things to do for all ages. Other entertainment organised was an Easter egg hunt for the kids, a fancy dress dinner, a run to Port Macdonald and music jam sessions.
Naturally, just to walk around and see the different vehicles was reward enough. There were the usual gaggle of VW campers but one special one was a red '71 Westfalia which has had one owner since it was 9 monts old. There were some excellent splits at the gathering. Of note was a white bay twin cab with a WRX engine in the rear. It looked mean with two large inlet pipes for the turbos on each side.
One member from Club VeeDub Canberra Chapter attended the event. His photos including some of camps on the way and return are at this link. More photos from Mt Gambia can be found on the Kombi Club forum on this link.
Planning for next year is well underway with the BUS STOP to be held at Narooma on the NSW South Coast. Local Canberra busses and others would be most welcome. You do not have to be a member of the Kombi Club to attend and do not have to have a kombi. Some Type 3s and a Karmin Ghia turned up at Mt Gambia and were most welcome. Early details of BUS STOP 2011 can be found at this link.
